Mio carissimo Sam

Oggi il mio parrocchetto bianco, Sam, è morto. L'ho adottato circa 12 anni fa.

Comunque, buon venerdì e weekend e vi parliamo presto!!!! ciao ciao!

Introduction

This will probably be the only time where English is used in this blog.  My experience with Italian will be full on immersion.  If you would like to translate, may I suggest Reverso or WordReference.  Many tutors and friends have told me to stay away from google translate because it does not translate well.  Maybe to look up a word like a dictionary but that's about it.  I am thinking of putting audio (no video, too much memory) with a dialogue.

Ok a bit of my journey.  I started Italian in 2019 full on when I needed something to keep my mind busy since most 40-something year olds have jobs.  I am on disability due to a few medical problems but I have learned to adapt. Moving on...

So here I am trying to find a way to learn Italian the cheapest way possible.  There are many free sites but how do you know if they are good?  Well, you really don't until you really get into the meat and potatoes of a language. I did buy a few softwares to try out.  I tried MangoLanguages, Babbel, BUSUU, Pimsleur and a few others. I recommend for you to try them.  I know my goals and what I want to achieve but I have nothing bad to say about any of them. Just have to see what is right for your budget.  Some do offer trial periods.  Use the heck out of them!  I did end up buying Ouino and it is mine forever and I can use it offline.  That is a big plus for me since I do go camping during the summer and during our drive times, I need something not internet dedicated.  I do have my traditional books too. Ok, enough of that...

Next was to put myself out there.  Hearing, reacting, using my brain to find out what I actually knew with my own twist.  I don't want to sound like a robot.  I did meet a lot of Italians through Tandem, Telegram, LanguageExachange (Website) and Whatsapp.  Anything that gets you talking even if it is a word or two, that is an accomplishment. So now I belong to a group on Telegram what are a mix of English/Italian speakers.

This year I met Daniela and we video chat at least once a week.  We don't have any agenda but we do try to speak about recipes, our weekend, spouses, pets, vacations and some language homework.  She is learning English and helping me with Italian and vice versa.

So here it is... the end of this intro to my language blog. If you are Italian and see mistakes, please correct them in the comments.

Have a great day!
